The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the initiative promoted by the Department of Social Welfare and Inclusion, has just put out to tender the purchase of six properties on the island to be used as new social healthcare centers, in line with offering more welcoming spaces in the island's care model.

The Institution presided over by Oswaldo Betancort accesses European funds to continue improving island facilities focused on the care of people. "Just a few days after starting work on the Tahíche nursing home, which will have 75 places for users with high socio-health requirements and 50 day-stay places, the Cabildo is now executing 9,223,818.87 million euros for the creation of another 100 public places for dependent people," Betancort detailed, before emphasizing how his government group "demonstrates with facts and new investments its commitment to the most vulnerable people, so that no one is left behind."

Specifically, this tender launched by the Cabildo of Lanzarote will involve the acquisition of six properties to expand a total of 40 places in residential centers and 60 places in day centers, in order to adapt them to the new long-term care model in Lanzarote.

The island president has clarified how, during this novel process, the Island Corporation will be responsible for assessing compliance with minimum quality standards, with good conditions of habitability and conservation, demanding compliance with the requirements of safety, functionality, accessibility, energy saving, noise protection, healthiness, and all those required by the regulations in force that may be applicable.

The Vice President of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and head of the Planning and Project Coordination area, María Jesús Tovar, has stated that this purchase "responds to one of the great challenges we had in this government group." "Through the Next Generation Funds, we have invested these 9 million euros that will directly impact the well-being of the citizens of Lanzarote and La Graciosa. We continue to bet on the creation of social and healthcare places that respond in a real way to the needs of the people of Lanzarote and Graciosa," she asserted.

For his part, the Councilor for Social Welfare and Inclusion, Marci Acuña, detailed some of the conditions for the acquisition of these infrastructures for socio-health centers, properties that must be located in specific island locations: "The Accessibility and Inclusion Strategy that we are implementing from the Cabildo during this term is transversal, offering a modern, balanced, and quality model that is in line with the identity of Lanzarote and La Graciosa," said the councilor.

Thus, the acquisition of these spaces must follow the following location criteria: a property in the municipality of Arrecife destined for the dependency-disability sector under a residential regime, with at least fifteen (15) places (Lot 1); a property in the municipality of Haría destined for the dependency-elderly sector under a residential regime, with at least ten (10) places (Lot 2); a property in the municipality of Tinajo destined for the dependency-elderly sector under a day-stay regime, with at least twenty (20) places (Lot 3); a property in the municipality of Arrecife destined for the dependency-intellectual and physical disability sector under a day-stay regime, with at least twenty (20) places (Lot 4); a property in the municipality of Yaiza destined for the dependency-elderly sector under a residential regime, with at least fifteen (15) places (Lot 5); and a property in the municipality of Arrecife destined for the dependency-elderly sector under a day-stay regime, with at least twenty (20) places (Lot 6).

Very specific specifications

The Cabildo of Lanzarote establishes in this tender very specific and rigorous specifications to seal the acquisition of real estate. The minimum usable area of the properties has been established: if they are individual homes, it is 90 m²; and if they are socio-health buildings or centers, it will be 400 m2. It will be taken into account that the centers are in suitable environments for the integration and well-being of the users, considering both the proximity to other socio-health resources, and the availability of parking areas nearby.

There are a series of general conditions for the properties offered, such as the immediate availability of the property on the date the offer is submitted. In addition, the territorial scope of the properties must be on consolidated urban land; and at the time of the sale, be in the name of the natural or legal person at least three months prior to the date of publication of the tender announcement, among other requirements. On the other hand, other specifications are established for each of the two types of properties: Housing/Homes in a residential community, and Sociosanitary Buildings/Centers.

The full ownership acquisition of these properties by the Cabildo de Lanzarote, free of encumbrances, liens, tenants, occupants, and squatters, to be used as a socio-sanitary center, is financed by the European Recovery Fund (NEXT GENERATION EU).

The deadline for submitting property offers will be 10 business days from the publication of the announcement through the electronic headquarters of the Island Council of Lanzarote and addressed to the Contracting Area.
