The Arrecife City Council has awarded the company Celestino Pérez Hernández "the service of removing abandoned vehicles in deposit and on public roads, decontamination and dismantling", as well as the removal of "tires and their treatment".

As detailed by the City Council, the contract that has been awarded through a "simplified open procedure" is "for two years and extendable for another two", and the successful bidder must pay an annual fee to the City Council of "6,794.50 euros, including VAT".

For the mayor of Arrecife, Ástrid Pérez, with this award "we cover a fundamental need for the third capital of the Canary Islands, we decontaminate the streets of Arrecife and we manage to move forward a new service that had been stuck for a long time."

Currently they only have "a facility for receiving and temporary storage of end-of-life vehicles", the well-known paddock, which is "full". In addition, they add from the Consistory that the successful bidder will have to "remove abandoned vehicles from public roads and from the deposit and deliver them to the CAT, Authorized Treatment Centers." Likewise, they will also have to document said delivery "through the certificate of destruction, which certifies the end of the useful life of the vehicle, as well as process the cancellation of Traffic of the same".

From the City Council they point out that in Arrecife there are already "more than a hundred abandoned cars", according to data from the Department of Infractions. Its head, Eli Merino, has pointed out that "the number of abandoned vehicles has been increasing and now this service is more necessary, which will also allow us to clear the paddock of abandoned and judicialized cars."

In the CAT, they point out from the City Council that "the parts and components that can be reused and marketed will be separated, all the materials from the decontamination will be delivered to an authorized manager, and the rest of the vehicle is sent to a company in charge of its fragmentation or dismantling."
