Santana celebrates Canal Gestión publishing the water balance "after his public complaint"

Despite this, the councilor in the Mixed Group assures that "an urgent audit of the state of the supply and purification network is still essential, as well as a firm commitment from the company and the institutions"

Armando Santana, Councilor of the Cabildo de Lanzarote

The councilor in the Mixed Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Armando Santana, has celebrated that "in less than 24 hours since he publicly denounced the lack of transparency of Canal Gestión Lanzarote, the company has finally published the water balances corresponding to the year 2023 on its website."

“Yesterday I denounced the absolute silence maintained by Canal Gestión since 2023, by ceasing to publish the annual report on water, a fundamental document to know the reality of the production, distribution and consumption of the most sensitive resource for Lanzarote”, Santana recalled.

"Until yesterday, the people of Lanzarote had been without access to key data for more than a year on how much water is produced, how much is lost, how much is billed or reused, as well as information on energy consumption, subscribers or the volume of purified water. It was an intolerable information blackout that should alarm the entire population”, the councilor pointed out.

For Santana, the immediate publication of the report after his complaint demonstrates that “when the voice is raised and the breaches are pointed out, it is possible to force administrations and public companies to be accountable. The people of Lanzarote deserve to know the situation of a basic service such as water, especially on an island that suffers breakdowns and cuts almost daily.”

Santana has reiterated that, despite this rectification by Canal Gestión, "an urgent audit of the state of the supply and purification network is still essential, as well as a firm commitment from the company and the responsible institutions to guarantee a decent, transparent and sustainable service."
