The mayor of San Bartolomé, Alexis Tejera, accompanied by the councilor of Social Services and Equality, María Dolores Fernández, and Isidro Pérez, councilor of Culture, held a meeting this Thursday with the president of the Social and Cultural Association for Women “Mararía”, Nieves Rosa Hernández, accompanied by the technician Linda Sol Timaná, and with the president of the Canary Foundation “Pequeño Valiente”, José Jerez, accompanied by the social worker Silvia Suárez, in order to welcome them to the premises ceded by the City Council in the Civic Center of Playa Honda, so that they can offer their services to the residents.
Tejera has shown the municipal commitment to families who experience the harshness of childhood cancer, bringing Pequeño Valiente closer to all people who need their advice, now having this new information point in Playa Honda. "In addition, we show sensitivity to equality issues," added the mayor, specifying that "advice is essential and more so, after this year marked by Covid, which has aggravated the situation of many women who have been or are experiencing situations of vulnerability. In this regard, he insisted that this service is offered "completely free of charge and with complete confidentiality".
In the case of Mararía, it provides the Comprehensive Advisory Service for Women in the municipality, which offers care to women in vulnerable situations to prevent and reduce the risk of social exclusion, through advice in the psychological, legal and labor fields for the comprehensive recovery of women, as well as awareness-raising actions on equality and prevention of gender violence in the municipality of San Bartolomé. For its part, the Canary Foundation Pequeño Valiente offers the necessary support to children and families affected by childhood cancer, trying to improve their quality of life at all times, carrying out dissemination actions, offering social and psychological care, facilitating the educational integration of the child, providing family leisure activities, providing accommodation for families in transit, improving hospital facilities and equipment, managing and providing financial aid.
In addition, Pequeño Valiente contributes to facilitating possible trips to other regions, promoting and improving the health care of children.
