The San Bartolomé City Council presented this Wednesday the 1st Art Campus in Lanzarote, a pioneering initiative in Spain that is being developed between July 24 and 31 at the Lanzarote Art Center, a space of the Curbelo Santana Foundation.
This campus will allow eight students from the Sculpture specialty to move to San Bartolomé to carry out monumental sculpture works, receive professional talks, field trips and classes by specialists, while the experience will culminate with an exhibition of the work created in this space, conceived as an experimental workshop.
The mayor, Isidro Pérez, wanted to express the importance of this artistic experience outside the usual academic field, based on learning from experimentation and artistic innovation in an art center located in a natural environment and with the tutoring of artists and teachers.
"Just as art, nature and thought are pillars of this project, so are they for the cultural policy of the San Bartolomé City Council, so we do not want to miss the opportunity to support this pioneering artistic experimentation program," says the mayor.
This experience seeks, therefore, to instill entrepreneurial attitudes while collaborative among young people, as well as the experimentation and research of natural elements that provide sustainable solutions. In addition, with the Open Classroom activities, the aim is to involve and disseminate these values among society as a whole.
"From the San Bartolomé City Council, we want to publicly express our support to consolidate this didactic experience of coexistence and involvement of the entire community, convinced that this feedback will directly revert to our environment," said the Councilor of Education, Alma González.
"Rufina Santana and Paco Curbelo have been persevering patrons and executors of the cultural and artistic projection of San Bartolomé and the promotion from and towards Lanzarote," they emphasize from the City Council, and add that "Lanzarote Art Center has been a focus of the dissemination of art and culture as elements of cohesion and evolution of society as a whole."
