The former mayor of Yaiza and vice president of the PNL, José Francisco Reyes, who was arrested last Wednesday along with four other members of his family, must appear in court this Saturday, when the 72 hours maximum period in which police detention can be maintained expires.
The magistrate of Court Number 2 of Arrecife, who is investigating the case for an alleged plot for the granting of illegal licenses, will take a statement from Reyes, his wife and two of his children, who have also spent the last three days detained in police stations on the island. The third adult daughter, who was arrested in Barcelona, was not transferred to Lanzarote, and was released after testifying before the agents and before a magistrate in the courts of the Catalan city where she resides.
Given that this Saturday is the 72-hour deadline, and that the judge and the prosecutor must take statements from four people, it cannot be ruled out that the detention period of some of them will be extended by court order, in case the entire family cannot be interrogated during the day. Presumably, Reyes will be the last to testify.
Once they appear before the magistrate, she will decide on the situation of each of them, and may order their release or their entry into provisional prison pending trial.
