Puertos del Estado guarantees the expansion of the Muelle de Naos for 23 million euros

The Port Authority will replace the current fence with one that is more integrated into the city's landscape

Meeting with State Ports

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, has announced the commitment acquired by Puertos del Estado by which it guarantees the financing of the expansion of the Muelle de Naos, for an amount of 23 million euros. "Either with funds from the entity, or with funds from the Port Authority", they point out from the Corporation.

The Cabildo maintains that the president of Puertos del Estado, Álvaro Rodríguez, assured the island president of this at the meeting held last week in Madrid, at the headquarters of the port organization. At said meeting, the president was accompanied by the senator for Lanzarote, Manuel Fajardo, and it was also attended by the president of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, Luis Ibarra, and the corporate director of Puertos del Estado, Manuel Arana.

"A period of intense work is now opening during which Puertos del Estado and the Port Authority of Las Palmas will have to complete the previous procedures that will allow the expansion work to be tendered and awarded throughout this year", the president pointed out.

“This is a very important step for Lanzarote because it will increase the competitiveness of our port facilities", explained the president, who has taken the opportunity to publicly thank the president of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, Luis Ibarra, for his constant commitment, “above the artificial conflicts that have been intended to be generated around the port”.

A new "home" for Latin sailing

As a second element of interest, the president highlighted the commitment acquired by the Port Authority and Puertos del Estado to include in the expansion project "the creation of a nautical activities area that will host, among other activities, those related to Latin sailing".

“We are going to respond to a historical debt that Lanzarote had contracted with Latin sailing which will finally be able to have facilities in accordance with the enormous fondness that this sport awakens in the people of Lanzarote”, explained Corujo.

The enclosure of the port area will be changed

In addition, the president has reported that the Port Authority of Las Palmas has accepted her request to replace the current perimeter fence, strongly criticized for its visual impact, "with a fence much more in line with the island's aesthetics".

“We understand that the closure of the port area must meet a series of security requirements, but we also understand that Arrecife deserves the system chosen for the closure to be much more integrated with the aesthetics of the city”, concluded Corujo.
