The Port Authority of Las Palmas opened this morning the envelopes with the technical proposals to develop the Arrecife marina. According to the deadlines established by this body, in approximately one month or a month and a half, the economic offer will be known, and then the project and the construction of the new port infrastructure of Arrecife will be awarded. A process that will be completed before the end of the year. Sources from the Port Authority have reported that the companies that are competing for the construction of the new Arrecife port are Puerto Calero and Puerto Agua Viva, both from Lanzarote.
In this sense, the mayor of Arrecife, Cándido Reguera, has shown himself
"delighted" that the marina goes ahead, "because for the
capital of the island is very important both the construction of the cruise
dock and the marina".
In his opinion, it is an infrastructure that will generate "a lot of
employment", while it is "a magnificent opportunity" to take
advantage of the opportunities that are presented to Arrecife with the execution of these two
works.
The capital's first mayor has insisted that the launch of this
marina will mean the creation of 300 direct jobs
"immediately" and, once that infrastructure is up and running,
"many more indirect jobs". In addition, he stated that the port
The capital's sports complex will also lead to the opening of numerous
service companies that would give work to the unemployed we have in
Arrecife and an investment in that area of the capital of approximately 30
million euros.
Cándido Reguera has also expressed his desire that Arrecife "be one of the best marinas in all of Europe".
TSJC Ruling
As is known, the mayor of the capital appealed in cassation before the
Supreme Court (TS) the recent ruling of the Superior Court of
Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC), annulling the Special Plan of the Port of
Arrecife (PEPA), "in defense of the interests of the Corporation".
Despite the criticism received of "incoherence" with the appeal
presented at the time by the PP against this same plan, the first mayor made it clear that the cruise dock and the Arrecife marina "are an opportunity" for the capital and "we must take advantage of the opportunities that are given to us and these infrastructures are".
The capital's mayor, who recalled that the PEPA was approved by CC and PSOE
in 2006, clarified that the PP's appeal responded to his opposition to the
construction of a bridge and some fillings, "and these two aspects are already
remedied, therefore we have no reason to continue with the
resource".
Star Project
According to the mayor, the marina is a "star project" that can
turn Arrecife into "the great marina of the Canary Islands with
world reference, destined to house large yachts from
all over the planet".
The company that wins the tender will have to build and
exploit, under a public domain concession regime, for 30 years, a land area and a body of water destined for nautical and recreational uses in the Naos dock. The financing of the works will be borne by the same company.
The marina will be located in the interior of the bay of
Naos, at the height of the Arrecife Fishing School, and the surface
maximum to occupy would be 167,000 square meters.
