The socialists of Arrecife have criticized what they consider "another breach by the mayor, Cándido Reguera, with the residents of the Titerroy neighborhood." This is what they stated, after learning that the meeting held between the Minister of Housing, Beatriz Corredor, and her regional counterpart, Inés Rojas, has resulted in a commitment to invest 3.8 million euros for the Canary Islands, for some projects among which, they assure, "the rehabilitation of the homes in Titerroy is not included."
The bilateral commission Canary Islands-State held in Santa Cruz de Tenerife signed agreements with eight Canary Island municipalities to build 1,058 homes and rehabilitate another 90, among other actions.
"This set of proposals lacked the rehabilitation projects for the homes affected by the collapses in Titerroy, despite Reguera's repeated promises to the residents that the reports would be ready for this commission," says the socialist councilor Víctor Sanginés.
In his opinion, "the mayor maintains his superficial and empty policy, by which he does not refrain from acquiring false commitments, in order to tackle conflicts quickly."
According to Sanginés, the City Council technicians have sufficient capacity to draft rehabilitation projects for the most affected homes. "And an effective and sensitive economic management should lead him to sacrifice the investment of public money in hiring studies, surveys and advisors and allocate it to an urgent action in this matter," he adds.
