Podemos Lanzarote criticizes that Ástrid Pérez "puts the interest of her party before the interest of the citizens", adding that the Popular Party has kicked off the electoral campaign "irresponsibly breaking the government pact in the Arrecife City Council."
"With two years left before the elections, and after only two years of institutional journey, the popular group stars in another episode of political instability on the island with the sole objective of strengthening its electorate at the expense of public institutions and the general interest," point out from Podemos,
According to the formation, despite the fact that this type of strategy, "typical of a policy of low democratic quality, is common in Lanzarote and was predictable, this last chapter demonstrates that the Popular Party remains anchored in the forms and ways of the last century, with the electoral interest of the party prevailing over the responsible and effective management of public interests."
Podemos considers that the citizens "do not deserve this type of low-level politics, this situation is a democratic anomaly that becomes more serious taking into account the economic, environmental and health crisis that we are suffering". They add that the citizens of Lanzarote, and specifically of Arrecife, "cannot expect anything useful from the next two years of the government of the island's capital. There is no time or capacity to truly govern with a new government group, so the paralysis to which the PP is leading us is guaranteed.
The purple formation demands that the Mayor of Arrecife make public the alleged reasons, so serious, that have led to this rupture. It is unacceptable that Mrs. Pérez breaks the government group of the island's capital alleging "unacceptable humiliations" and then refuses to make these reasons public. The same mayor, point out from Podemos, who subjects her citizens "to an institutional crisis" has the duty to be "transparent and clear" with the people who suffer the consequences of her political decisions.
"We are facing issues of general interest that affect public institutions and that must be exposed to the public with transparency and clarity," say from Podemos, who add that "if there is public talk of political humiliations as the cause of the rupture of an institutional pact, the public has the right to know what those humiliations have been in order to assess the significance of these reasons". "You cannot govern for the people but without the people".
"We can only highlight the contradiction between the few reasons made public by Mrs. Pérez to justify the rupture of the government pact," details the formation with the newspaper archive and with the legality, detailing several points: "Astrid Pérez herself endorsed at the time the spending on the San Ginés festivities," denying the waste and even stating that "they are the cheapest festivities for the City Council thanks to the contribution of the Island Council."
In addition, Podemos also points out that "the fiscalization and control of the Finance Council falls on the person who presides over the City Council, being especially alarming that the mayor herself publicly acknowledges that there has been a lack of control in the management of public accounts, being she the main responsible"
Finally, the political formation details that the authorities and public officials "have the duty and obligation to defend the island's heritage. "The Oriental Hotel building has heritage values that the government group and the technical office know and have expressly recognized. The Arrecife City Council has been neglecting these obligations for years. What is doubted is the legality of said license and the policy of destruction of the city's historical heritage, not the preservation of our heritage wealth by the Island Council".
Regarding the Island Council
The Podemos political group in the Island Council is going to ask for "immediate actions for the preservation of the surviving historical heritage in the historical center of Arrecife as a first measure to counteract the danger of leaving a heritage-depredating party exclusively managing historical assets."
According to the formation, they will act "with prudence and loyalty" to their commitment to the citizens. "The decisions, democratic debates and options that this party adopts will be explained publicly, and we will submit to legitimate political criticism in favor of the principles of transparency and loyalty. We know that we do not have easy times or simple decisions ahead of us, in this situation we can only reaffirm our commitment to the citizens, to the electoral program that endorsed our election and to the public interest"
