The Podemos Lanzarote grassroots have rejected turning the PSOE's top candidate, José Juan Cruz, into the president of the Cabildo, although they have said yes to a motion of censure with the socialist number two, Ariagona González, thus endorsing the position that the party's councillors have been maintaining in the Cabildo.
According to the party, 64.24% of the registered members who participated in the telematic consultation have ruled out participating in a motion of censure if it is headed by Cruz, but 83.03% are in favor of "trying to negotiate a motion of censure with a candidate who could be from Podemos" or with the socialist Ariagona González.
The consultation, in which 166 registered members participated, raised the question of whether or not to support a motion of censure against the current president of the Cabildo, Pedro San Ginés, "with a minimum program previously agreed upon" together with PSOE, Somos, Ciudadanos and PIL, in which the candidate for the Presidency was the socialist José Juan Cruz, as explained this Thursday by the Secretary of Organization of Podemos Canarias, Inés Chinea, who has advanced the results of the consultation.
If the motion of censure prospers, 40% have expressed "agreement that Podemos should become part of the government group" and 23.03% have said yes, provided that the president is not José Juan Cruz.
It should be remembered that, initially, the Podemos councillor in the Cabildo, Carlos Meca, nominated himself as a candidate. However, after having maintained contacts with other formations, the councillors of the purple formation in the Cabildo were willing to support a motion of censure headed by the PSOE if the candidate was Ariagona González and not José Juan Cruz, considering that his profile "is not the most suitable" to regenerate and change political life. A position that was endorsed by the Podemos Assembly and has now been validated by the party's members.
