Podemos San Bartolomé has denounced the "unsustainable situation" of housing in the municipality and the "lack of interest shown by the government group (PSOE-CC-PIL) headed by the socialist Dolores Corujo, in addressing the needs of citizens in the face of the seriousness of the problem" in the municipality. And it is that the purple formation affirms that "in the last two terms (2011-2015 and 2015 to date), there has been no initiative from the City Council that allows us to think that there is a housing plan", despite the fact that "in 2011 an international competition called 'Europan 11' was won for the construction of 34 social houses".
Podemos denounces the "apathy" in housing matters in San Bartolom
"But nothing has been done to make that project a reality, demonstrating once again the apathy that the government group displays in housing matters, denounces the spokesperson for Podemos in San Bartolomé, who demands that the Consistory "adopt the necessary actions so that the City Council promotes urgent measures to alleviate the lack of housing in the municipality".
"No one hides the fact that in Lanzarote there is a situation of social emergency due to the lack of rental housing at affordable prices for the majority of the population", points out Griselda Martínez, who adds that "to this must be added the increase in housing for vacation rentals, which has aggravated the problem, since the decree that regulates this activity does not allow this type of rental in tourist areas, which protects the interests of hoteliers but undermines those of tenants".
In this regard, the spokesperson for Podemos in San Bartolomé points out that "it is increasingly common for tenants to be required by their landlords to leave the house, either to dedicate it to vacation rentals, or to raise the rental price considerably due to the lack of rental supply".
Seven years without approving the General Plan
Griselda Martínez recalls that on October 25 of last year, in the Parliament of the Canary Islands, during the appearance of the Minister of Housing of the Government of the Canary Islands, the mayor of San Bartolomé stated that "planning in housing matters in the last decade has been a real disaster" and that the problem is that there is no plan".
"This statement is the sad reality of her own management in the municipality: there is no planning or plan in housing matters in San Bartolomé", says the spokesperson for Podemos in the municipality, who criticizes that "after almost seven years as mayor", the municipality continues "without approving the General Development Plan".
"However, the El Quintero area (near the Farmer's Monument) has all the permits to be developed, having been approved by Law 6/2009 on urgent measures in territorial planning", adds Griselda Martínez. An area where, according to what the City Council announced at the time, the project that won the international competition 'Europan 11' for the construction of 34 social houses was going to be developed.
