Podemos has condemned the participation of Judge Ricardo Fiestras "in an illegal party" and the positive alcohol test and subsequent accident of the Mayor of Tinajo, demanding that "responsibilities be determined" for both "regrettable events."
The formation considers that in the midst of a pandemic "with catastrophic consequences both for the health of the citizens and for the economy of the island" and with "an alert level 4 in Lanzarote -the highest in the entire archipelago- with the restrictions that this implies in terms of meetings in private spaces", "Lanzarote cannot tolerate that news of this type does not have consequences for its protagonists."
In addition, it points out that if we add to this "the concern left by the data" and "the high mortality rates of this last wave", the "unexemplary behavior of these two citizens, who, due to their responsibility and the public dimension of their profession, should be role models for citizens" is "at the very least scandalous." "It is shameful that the authorities who must enforce the rules are the first to break them," he adds.
Asks about the magistrate's "dangerous friendships"
Regarding the participation of Magistrate Ricardo Fiestras, head of the Court of Instruction number 4, in a party in a villa in Yaiza, Podemos affirms to have witnessed the news "astonished." "These despicable and illegal acts not only scandalize, but also accentuate the indignation of citizens, in the face of a flagrant violation of the rules imposed to contain the spread of Covid. 19, generating distrust and a feeling of impunity for people in whose hands it is to enforce the law," they point out from the party.
In addition, the formation highlights the presence at the party of Fernando Becerra, "a person well known on the island not precisely for being an example in complying with the laws" and "sentenced to one year in prison and 100,000 euros fine for various crimes, after having admitted that he tried to bribe a politician with 600,000 euros to allow an urbanization of more than 1,000 homes and 200 commercial premises in the tourist municipality of Yaiza."
This fact makes Podemos wonder "about the dangerous friendships that our magistrates frequent, who, let us not forget, are in charge of investigating the alleged crimes that both citizens and the Prosecutor's Office denounce."
From the purple formation they condemn these "regrettable events", demanding that "it goes all the way, determining the administrative responsibilities of all the participants, including the magistrate, and imposing sanctions in other areas, if there were obstructive behaviors of the work of the Civil Guard, abuse of his position as a judge, or had an inappropriate attitude with the agents."
Labels Machín's apologies as "far-fetched" and demands his resignation
On the other hand, Podemos demands the "immediate resignation" of the Mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, after he has been convicted after causing a traffic accident and testing positive in the alcohol test. And it is that, the formation considers that "his behavior is not worthy of a representative of this municipality, nor is he qualified to lead it."
"It is not logical to ask people for an effort, giving up something as our own as carnivals are to try to lower the curve of infections, and that this gentleman celebrates his particular carnival Tuesday and ends up crashing his car under the effects of ingesting alcoholic beverages, in such quantity that this behavior is worthy of a sanction included in the Penal Code," adds the party, although Jesús Machín assured that he was returning from a work meeting at the home of councilor Luis Pérez, when he had the accident.
However, Podemos considers the apologies of the Mayor of Tinajo to be "far-fetched," pointing out that they "sadly remind us of those offered by the King Emeritus." Likewise, despite the explanations given by Machín attributing the accident to the ingestion of medications, he points out that "it is not appropriate now to try to evade the consequences."
Finally, from the purple formation they make "a call to the responsibility of citizens and especially those public servants who, due to their position, must have a scrupulous compliance with the legal system, and with the rules established for the containment of the pandemic to which we are all, without exception, obliged."
