In addition, one of the councilors will hold Education, Youth and Equality, while the second councilor of the formation will lead the areas of Employment, Housing and Open Government

Press conference of PSOE and Podemos to announce the government pact in the Cabildo of Lanzarote

PSOE and Podemos have signed, on Friday morning, the government pact in the Cabildo of Lanzarote, in order to give "stability" to the governability of the Island Corporation. The Secretaries of Organization of both parties, Nira Fierro and César Merino, have announced at a press conference the agreed points, and the new distribution of areas of the government of the first institution, in which the purple formation will assume, among other responsibilities, the Ministry of the Environment, and will propose a non-elected councilor to lead it.

That person will be Elena Solís, who comes from the environmental movement. The responsibilities of the Office of the Biosphere Reserve, the Geopark Office, the House of Volcanoes, Animal Welfare, Food Sovereignty and Experimental Farm will be assigned to the Environment area.

The document presented by both formations details that one of the two elected councilors of Podemos will assume the areas of Youth, Education and Equality, and it should be noted that the first two areas were directed by the non-elected councilor of Somos Lanzarote, Paula Corujo. The other councilor of the purple formation will hold the councilorships of Employment, Housing and Open Government.

As detailed in the document, both formations agree on governability because, after the rupture of the "unnatural" pact between PSOE and PP, the numbers now allow Lanzarote to "join the wave of change that has swept through the main institutions of the Canary Islands." This is happening at this time, according to the formations, since after the 2019 elections, "the electoral arithmetic prevented the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the City Council of Arrecife from joining that wave of change."

Both PSOE and Podemos are committed to act "with total loyalty" to what has been agreed, as well as to maintain "unity of vote" in committees and plenary sessions. In addition, they point out that "a Monitoring Commission of the Pact" is constituted, which will be formed by three people from each of the formations. The function of this Commission, according to what is added in the document, will be to "evaluate the functioning of the pact", as well as "resolve the doubts that may arise throughout the mandate."
