The councilors of Podemos in the Arrecife City Council have urged the government team to explain "what is happening so that "existing" important budgeted items in 2016, such as housing, "which have not been executed", the money "is not used". The formation refers, especially to an area that they consider "so delicate and with so many deficiencies as housing."
In the opinion of the group "there are only two reasons" for this situation: "lack of personnel or political inability to carry out the projects". In either case, as they have stated in a statement from Podemos, "beyond unbridled criticism, we believe it is urgent to diagnose the situation in order to face it with the appropriate tools."
In this sense, they have indicated that they want it to be explained, "to us and to the entire citizenry, what is happening so that of 1.3 million budgeted in the area of Housing, Councilor Vicky Sande has only spent 57,000 euros." In this sense, they have asked "how many families, of those who today barely survive occupying homes in our capital, would have seen their situation alleviated?" with the payment of "rent subsidies". They have also questioned "how can so much lack of sensitivity be tolerated?"
"Any ruler would have bent over backwards"
In the opinion of the councilors of the purple formation "any informed ruler with a sincere concern for the well-being of their neighbors would have bent over backwards to spend every last one of those euros, even demanding to increase the item as much as necessary."
They have also referred to the sections of 'Conservation and rehabilitation of the building' pointing out that "105,000 miserable euros were budgeted as subsidies for the owners" and of these "only 8,801 euros have been delivered". In the section on "access to housing, housing rental" they have indicated that of a "budget of 120,000 only 7,266 euros have been paid"
In the opinion of the municipal representatives of Podemos, these are "ridiculous amounts" taking into account "the state in which a large part of the buildings in Arrecife are and the difficulties that our neighbors go through to access a home."
"Budgets are prepared to solve and cover needs"
"We are aware that for those who have governed until now this type of thing, executing a small part of what is budgeted, is normal enough in public administration. But neither we, nor the citizens, think it is normal at all," they added.
In the same vein, they have indicated that "budgets are prepared to solve and cover the needs of those who live in Arrecife and we do not understand the neglect and lack of sensitivity shown by the Social Services and Housing councilors when applying the budget approved in 2016, especially when it comes to avoiding suffering among our neighbors or solving manifest deficiencies."
