Playa Honda will have a UNED classroom, which will offer English, German and Spanish classes

The San Bartolomé City Council has ceded a premises in the Playa Honda Civic Center to the National University of Distance Education (UNED), where language modules will be taught from the next 2013-2014 academic year. The mayoress of San Bartolomé, María Dolores Corujo, has expressed her "satisfaction for what represents a great advance in educational matters for this municipality." "It is a great commitment to training," she defended.

The first mayor and the director of the UNED in Lanzarote, Irene Betancort, have signed this agreement this Tuesday, through which English, German and Spanish classes will be taught in Playa Honda. In addition, students will be able to choose between the elementary, basic or intermediate level.

The City Council will contribute to the UNED with 4,000 euros per year, while the UNED undertakes to teach these language classes and provide the classroom with multimedia computers for students to access university information. In addition, the classroom will be offered to the City Council for courses in "computer literacy or a similar theme."

Commitment to "permanent collaboration"

In addition, both institutions have formally committed to maintaining "permanent collaboration in educational matters", especially in all those that "result in benefit of continuous training and access to the labor market for residents of the municipality."

The director of the UNED in Lanzarote, Irene Betancort, has expressed her "gratitude to the mayoress, as the highest municipal representative", since "thanks to this agreement the objective of bringing distance education closer to the entire population is embodied." "Language teaching is a basic need for this island and this agreement is a way of making this training effective. Education is the key to the development of a people", she defended.
