The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, confirms that the municipality will soon have a new sports facility, in this case for climbing, in the Atlantic Park of the tourist town of Playa Blanca. Here will be installed a climbing wall with an estimated height of 10 meters and different levels and inclinations for rope climbing, thus allowing the technical training of a sport that is gaining more and more followers every day.
Yaiza is the Institution promoting this project that has already been awarded by the Cabildo of Lanzarote, as contracting body, to the specialized company ShaperWalls S.L, for an amount of 155,043 euros, as detailed by the Public Sector Contracting Platform, which also specifies that the outdoor climbing wall of the Atlantic Park of Playa Blanca is co-financed by the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN).
“Our objective is to expand leisure alternatives and improve sports facilities, either by investing with our own funds or through co-financing formulas as we have done with the climbing wall”, adds the mayor. For his part, the Councilor for Sports, Ángel Lago, highlights that “every day there is greater interest in climbing, there are more young people who want to start in this sport and with this project we respond effectively to a demand from the youth of Yaiza”.
The City Council opted for a climbing wall outdoors, understanding that this alternative is the most practical due to the location of the structure in a large park and the good climate that Playa Blanca has throughout the year.
