The acting President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has finally traveled to Morocco to spend a few days on vacation with his family, Government sources have informed EFE. Although it was initially speculated that Sánchez would travel to Lanzarote, the same sources explain that the head of the Executive in office has remained in Madrid until this Tuesday.
Sánchez, who has traveled on a commercial airline to the Marrakech airport, landed a few hours ago in this city to rest with his family before starting the new political year.
This is a "strictly private" trip, according to Moncloa sources, who emphasize that it has been "entirely paid for with own resources" by the President of the Government and does not include any institutional agenda.
The President of the Government began his vacation today after recording a video this Monday at the PSOE headquarters in Ferraz in which he was confident of finding sufficient support to achieve an investiture that "allows us to continue advancing" for another four years.
Sánchez has scheduled the constitution of the Courts for August 17 to begin negotiating the possible support he requires to re-edit a coalition government.
Sánchez and his family's vacations in Morocco are not the first for a Spanish government president in the neighboring country.
Former presidents José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero and Felipe González, both socialists, used to spend vacation periods in northern Morocco, but since the former left the presidency in 2012, no other Spanish head of state has done so.
In 2011, Zapatero spent New Year's Eve with his family in the northern city of Tánger together with his then Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trinidad Jiménez.
