Pascual Gil, appointed as the new director of the Timanfaya National Park

The Minister of Ecological Transition, José Antonio Valbuena, highlights Gil's “extensive career” in public administrations, where he has carried out planning and management work in protected natural areas.

The Ministry of Ecological Transition, Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning of the Government of the Canary Islands has assigned Pascual Gil as the new director of the Timanfaya National Park, after the selection process convened by the General Directorate for the Fight against Climate Change and the Environment.

The area's councillor, José Antonio Valbuena, highlights “his extensive experience with 22 years of management in public administrations both in the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands and in the Cabildo of Tenerife, where he has carried out planning and management work in protected natural areas.”

Linked for a large part of his career to the Environment Area of ​​the Cabildo of Tenerife, Pascual Gil has been Head of the Forest Planning and Projects Service for eight years, specializing in environmental and ecological restoration projects and works in the Corona Forestal Natural Park.

He also promoted research projects with different universities to improve knowledge and assess the results of different forest restoration techniques, being co-author of multiple articles in scientific journals.

In the last four years, as head of the Public Use and Environmental Education Service, he exercised powers at the island level, integrating environmental management with tourism to combine socioeconomic development with greater awareness, knowledge and conservation of protected spaces.

During this period, he promoted a georeferenced computer system for the maintenance and improvement of public use infrastructures, as well as various manuals and technical guides, in order to facilitate work between the different administrations that have powers in the maintenance of equipment.
