The president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, and the vice president Jacobo Medina, continued this Tuesday their round of meetings through the municipalities of the Island, visiting the southern consistory of Yaiza, with the presence of the mayor Óscar Noda, the councilor of Public Works, Ángel Lago, and the councilor of Urbanism, Karina Centeno.
In this first meeting with Yaiza, many issues were discussed, among which priorities for both institutions stood out, such as the urgent repair of the sinkhole of Los Hervideros and the promotion of social welfare projects, such as the construction of the Family Respite Center, or demands in the field of Education such as the project of the IES of Playa Blanca, for which, Oswaldo Betancort, guaranteed a budget item, both from the Government of the Canary Islands and from the Cabildo, for the next economic year 2024.
Likewise, both institutions expressed their intention to request the opening of the port of Playa Blanca to medium-scale cruises, as an economic boost for a town and a tourist municipality such as Yaiza, in addition to developing projects linked to the coast, such as the recovery of the Atlantic Museum and the promotion of tourism modernization plans.
“The will is to build an Island model by supporting the municipalities, taking into account their differences in the case of tourist municipalities and always hand in hand with local administrations and in accordance with what the citizens demand”, said Oswaldo Betancort, who guaranteed that the Cabildo will make available all possible resources to materialize the anchored and future projects”. As an example, Betancort announced that all the necessary personnel will be allocated to beautify the roadsides”.
In another order of things, numerous issues were put on the table, such as the rehabilitation of the road up to Femés; the renovation of the water distribution network in areas of the municipality where a high rate of breakdowns is currently recorded; the repair of the pumping station at the height of the Morro de Uga roundabout; the supply of water and electricity in La Geria; the maintenance of the network of rural roads and access to the Papagayo campsite; the sanitation of the town of El Golfo; the needs in terms of transport (with increased bus services and taxi licenses), as well as the problem of access to the Mountains of Fire.
For all this, Jacobo Medina, as vice president and as councilor of Public Works, also stated “his total willingness to be in line with the homologous areas and unblock the necessary projects for the development of the municipality of Yaiza”.
For his part, the mayor of Yaiza thanked the Cabildo for this first institutional visit, offering all the collaboration in the demands made. "I reiterate the institutional loyalty of the City Council that I preside over and the commitment to work together to finish executing the projects underway and undertake new welfare actions”, concluded Óscar Noda.
