The Lanzarote Island Council, through SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote, has made a highly positive assessment of its participation in World Travel Market London 2025, one of the most relevant international events in the tourism sector and the main meeting point with the British market, the most important and stable for the island.
Connectivity forecasts for winter 2025-2026 confirm a 3.4% increase in air seats to Lanzarote, reflecting the loyalty and strength of a market that, despite economic and political changes in recent years, maintains its commitment to the destination as a safe, attractive, and trustworthy place.
The president of the Cabildo and Minister of Tourism, Oswaldo Betancort, emphasized that Lanzarote "has reached a phase of maturity in which containing growth is not a brake, but a strategic decision".
"Lanzarote is growing less, but invoicing more. That is the stability and maturity of the tourism model we want: more profitable tourism, more respectful of the territory, and more aligned with our identity," Betancort highlighted, recalling that "no one chooses a destination that is not of quality."For his part, the CEO of SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote, Héctor Fernández, valued that the behavior of the British market "demonstrates the solidity of the destination and the success of planning that seeks balance and coherence"."The slight adjustment in tourist arrivals is not a symptom of weakness, but of control. We are containing growth and, at the same time, increasing spending in destination. That is the right direction," stated Fernández.During the fair days, the Lanzarote delegation held meetings with the main tour operators in the United Kingdom - TUI, Jet2, EasyJet, or the employers' association ABTA -, in addition to the Spanish Tourism Office in London, dependent on Turespaña.In this framework, a collaboration protocol was signed with British Airways, the result of two years of work, which strengthens air connectivity and solidifies cooperation with one of the most prestigious airlines in the worldLikewise, Lanzarote presented the World Charter for Sustainable Tourism +30 to the British sector, which will be celebrated on November 28 at Jameos del Agua, as an example of its commitment to a regenerative and sustainable tourism model, focused on generating benefits for both the visitor and the resident community
The president of the Cabildo also highlighted the ongoing tourism modernization processes in the main accommodation hubs — Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise, and Playa Blanca — which have positioned Lanzarote as the island with the highest proportional growth in five-star hotels, reinforcing its competitiveness through renovation and excellence.
“When they say we depend on British tourism, I prefer to say: blessed dependence. We depend on a loyal, stable market that values who we are: an island that protects its territory, seeks excellence, and opens itself to the world without losing its identity,” Betancort concluded
With a solid and coherent institutional presence, Lanzarote has once again positioned itself at the World Travel Market as an Atlantic benchmark for sustainability, quality, and intelligent tourism management, confirming that the stability of the British market remains one of the pillars of its tourism development model.
