The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Department of Agriculture led by President Oswaldo Betancort, has opened the deadline for submitting applications for the 2025 campaign for the sale of fruit trees. The initiative makes available to citizens a total of 1,290 specimens of 26 different species, with the aim of continuing to promote agriculture, the diversification of the island's agricultural landscape, and self-consumption.

Applications may be submitted from July 7th to July 31st, both through the Cabildo's electronic headquarters and in person at the Experimental Agricultural Farm from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The maximum number of specimens per person will be four units, and applications will be processed in order of registration until supplies last.

“The good reception of this campaign in previous editions confirms the growing interest in cultivating in our homes, farms, or orchards. This campaign is an example of how the Cabildo provides resources to citizens to reinforce a more sustainable, diverse, and adapted agriculture to our territory,” Betancort highlighted.

The list of admitted individuals will be published on the Cabildo's website, where the distribution date will also be announced. Each applicant will be assigned an appointment to collect the fruit trees at the facilities of the Experimental Agricultural Farm. Payment of the invoice will be made at the time of collection.

This year, species as demanded as avocados (Hass, Fuerte, Bacon), almonds, plums (Golden Japan, Santa Rosa), guavas, lemons, mandarins, mangoes, apples, olives (Arbequina, Hojiblanca, Picual), papayas, bananas, pears, medlars, or persimmons, among others, are offered.

Campaign for seeds and chives beds

In parallel, the Cabildo has activated the registration period for the campaign of seeds of local varieties and allocation of land for chives beds, an action that reinforces the protection of traditional varieties and the promotion of local crops.

The campaign will remain open from July 7th to July 31st and contemplates the distribution of seeds between September 8th and September 19th, depending on availability and order of application. Those interested may register electronically through the Cabildo's website or in person at the offices of the Experimental Agricultural Farm.

Professional farmers, part-time farmers, agricultural projects, and amateurs may participate, although priority will be given to those registered in the REGEPA and productive projects linked to onion cultivation. Applicants must provide documentation that accredits their condition and data of the plot in which the seeds will be sown.

The varieties offered include onions, broad beans, millet, wheat, peas, chickpeas, white beans, pinto beans, black beans, and butter beans, among others, reinforcing the local seed bank and ensuring the continuity of crops adapted to the climatic conditions of Lanzarote.
