The Local Committee of Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-BC) in Tías has once again demanded that the Tías City Council require the Cabildo de Lanzarote to urgently install bus shelters at the bus stops in the municipality, a "historical demand" that the party has been conveying to both administrations for years without, to date, an effective solution having materialized.
NC-BC recalls that "the lack of shelters daily affects hundreds of public transport users, including workers, students, elderly people, residents, and tourists who use this service as their usual means of transport."
The organization considers it "incomprehensible that, while new actions related to public transport are announced, most of the municipality's stops continue to lack basic infrastructure that allows users to wait in dignified conditions of comfort and safety."
In this regard, the party positively values the installation of information panels at some stops, understanding that they contribute to improving the information available to travelers. However, it considers it difficult to justify prioritizing these actions when there are still numerous stops without a simple shelter to protect users from high temperatures, wind, or rain.
"We wonder how it is possible that, in the 21st century, we still have bus stops without shelters in one of the most important municipalities of Lanzarote," state NC-BC Tías.
The party also denounces that the City Council and the Cabildo "continue to shift responsibility for this issue to each other, while the problem remains unresolved." Therefore, it demands that both administrations coordinate efforts and act immediately to respond to a demand that they consider basic and perfectly achievable.
The local spokesperson for NC-BC in Tías, Juan de León, insists that "betting on public transport is not only about incorporating new technologies or improving user information, but also about guaranteeing adequate conditions for those who use the service every day."
"Citizens have been waiting too long for a solution. The excuses have run out, and so has the patience of the residents. It is time to move from announcements to actions and provide bus stops with the infrastructure they deserve," concludes de León.
NC-BC Tías "thus reaffirms its commitment to the improvement of public services and will continue defending the real needs of the residents of the municipality until this historical demand is finally met".
