Nueva Canarias asks Betancort to clarify the situation regarding the Canal Gestión report

The party asks the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and his government to "be transparent with the Lanzarote society as it is a public service and an essential asset such as water"

Island Executive of Nueva Canarias

Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-bc) in Lanzarote and La Graciosa asks the president of the Island Council, Oswaldo Betancort (CC), to "be clear about the well-known report that accounts for the breaches of the company Canal Gestión in the treatment of water on the island".

As announced by the president of the Cabildo himself last Friday, this report would reveal "serious" breaches of the concession contract to Canal Gestión Lanzarote of the water supply, sanitation and reuse services on the island and in La Graciosa, which could be subject to revocation of the contract.

For the political formation, if these assertions are true, they state that "the president and his government group must be as transparent as possible with the Lanzarote society as it is a public service and an essential asset such as water".

They continue arguing that "it is good to submit the report to the Insular Water Consortium, where the seven town councils and the Cabildo are present", but the logical thing is to convene the General Board of the Insular Water Council, an organization where, apart from public institutions being represented, there are also representatives of organized civil society such as unions, companies, consumers or Canal Gestión itself.

According to the Canaristas, "reporting to the Insular Water Council offers greater transparency and participation to civil society in a problem that has been managed in an opaque manner and behind the backs of the population, prioritizing, since the origin of the privatization, the interest of a few to the detriment of the general interest".

Thus, from NC-bc they hope that "this intention to revoke the contract by President Oswaldo Betancort is not another 'smokescreen' that he has us accustomed to, and leads to a turning point to 'regain control' of public water in Lanzarote and La Graciosa so that it returns to the hands of the people of Lanzarote", they declare.
