Noda asks Oswaldo Betancort to explain the elimination of Cooperation Plans with the municipalities

The mayor of Yaiza is "astonished by a decision of this magnitude that directly affects the institutions closest to their residents, such as the town councils"

Óscar Noda, Mayor of Yaiza

The advisor of the Mixed Group - NC in the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Óscar Noda, has requested the appearance of the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, to inform the citizens about the elimination of the items called Municipal Cooperation Plans in the General Budgets of the Cabildo for this year 2025.

Noda is “astonished by a decision of this magnitude that directly affects the institutions closest to their residents, such as the town councils". “The silenced and suspicious decision to eliminate the Cooperation Plans for the Town Councils in the Cabildo Budgets can only respond to issues without excessive common sense, as it is a real outrage”, says the advisor.

The also mayor of Yaiza assures that “it is even less understood that it comes from someone like Oswaldo Betancort, who was mayor of Teguise for a long time and knows the benefits of these plans, although he would always be thinking of higher goals”. Óscar Noda vindicates the role of local administrations, recalling that "the municipalities know their problems well and therefore can guarantee that the projects reflect the solutions. The town councils must have control over the drafting of the projects, also ensuring that they include solutions to problems that may arise in the environment of the main objective of the action".

Noda also points out "the cynicism of Oswaldo Betancort and his cohort that is reaching unsuspected limits. It is all a facade of appearance, of lamentable bread and circus and TikTok videos that is leaving the island of Lanzarote for good. Remember that we are talking about a president who, as soon as he arrived, said he wanted to be the mayor of Lanzarote. Now we see that he reduces the capacity of the town councils, that he drowns them and above all obscures them if they are not of the political color of his party, a sectarian and disloyal behavior that is not only reflected in the works”.

Óscar Noda understands that "this decision, so harmful to the town councils of Lanzarote, responds to very personal interests. It is quite likely that we are talking about egos, that the president wants to appear as a champion of management, marginalizing the town councils. It seems that they are starting to have electoral fears and are wrong in the strategy once again. We already have the precedent of the 90 million euros that he promised to solve the problems of the integral water cycle and the sign that we are going from bad to worse".
