The Playa Honda Civic Center hosted last Friday a meeting organized by Nueva Canarias, which brought together a large number of entrepreneurs from the sustainable mobility sector, the hospitality industry and individuals.
The talk-colloquium was moderated by the municipal spokesman of NC in San Bartolomé, Pablo Yebra, who together with the businessman and expert in sustainable mobility Jorge Delgado, talked about mobility, bike lanes, citizen awareness and coexistence between users and pedestrians.
According to NC, bicycle entrepreneurs argued that "the solution to the speed on the avenue cannot be prohibition; but regulation and information to users." For their part, the hoteliers in the avenue area agreed that "they have seen a decrease in customers on Saturdays and Sundays, those cyclists who around noon have a drink and eat something after walking."
Likewise, it is pointed out that some residents of the town expressed their concern about the speed in certain areas, and the "misuse" that is being given to mobility formats such as electric scooters, "many of them without parking areas, without security for children, and without guarantees of responsible use."
From Nueva Canarias San Bartolomé, its full willingness was transferred to bring the discomfort of all those involved to the municipal authorities, in order to bring them together and develop "a true mobility plan in accordance with a town, Playa Honda, which represents the densest residential nucleus of Lanzarote."
"Playa Honda must move with urban population parameters co-capital of the island, in similarity with La Laguna in Tenerife or Telde in Gran Canaria", says Pablo Yebra. Thus, the Canaristas demand a Municipal Mobility Plan that responds to the demands of the European Green Pact, and that regulates the coexistence of residents, users and passers-by. "We must manage, plan and act. That is what public representatives are for, to assume responsibilities," they point out from the organization.
