Nueva Canarias Lanzarote has demanded that the Island Council make an "urgent" improvement to the perimeter delimitation of the Zonzamas landfill, "after the continuous rains of plastics that flood the environment near the site".
For the formation, "the thousands of bags and waste that originate from the Zonzamas landfill and end up scattered throughout the island environment is incongruous with the very work of the site, which is to store and transform the garbage generated."
"Basuraleza is one of the enemies to combat on our island, being inadmissible that a public facility itself is the generator of an environmental attack of such magnitude as the rain of plastics," says Armando Santana, island secretary of the New Green Pact of Nueva Canarias Lanzarote.
Therefore, demands an improvement in the landfill facilities, "which puts an end to the escape of garbage that damages the landscape and causes great damage to the fauna and flora, mainly, of the island's jable." "We are obliged to make Lanzarote the island of reference in biodiversity again, and photographs like the ones we see around Zonzamas take us away from it. Rather, it places us as a bad example," says Santana.
With everything, from the Insular Secretariat of the New Green Pact of NC, they insist on the individual responsibility of each person for recycling and sustainable habits, such as the reuse of packaging, bags, etc. "If each and every one of us contributes our grain of sand privately, we will be working for the common good," concludes Armando Santana.
