NC assures that "the governments of CC, PP and Vox lead us to frustration" after a year of mandate

The president of Nueva Canarias in Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Yoné Caraballo, calls for building "a bloc of progress and optimism" against the advance of the "ultraconservative bloc"

Press conference June 17

The political organization Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-BC) in Lanzarote and La Graciosa has taken stock of the first year of its mandate. In a press conference, the island president of the Canarian formation, deputy Yoné Caraballo, together with colleagues from the organization, assessed the management of the conservative governments of CC and PP in the Island Council and Government of the Canary Islands with respect to the policies deployed for the island.

Thus, Caraballo described this first year of mandate as "frustrating" for the island of Lanzarote, since "we are with the same problems, even more aggravated, than a year ago." This is evident, he indicates, "in the fact that we continue to have problems in the water supply, in access to housing, in the collapse of public services such as health, in mobility or tourist saturation."

In addition, the leader of NC-bc in Lanzarote criticized the "outdated practices maintained by many of the public officials on the island, installed in the policies of the 20th century of asphalt, parties and photos, and without any proposal for real transformation."

"It is frustrating to see how nothing is done to reverse the problems of access to housing; or the inability to design new, more sustainable models of mobility and urban planning," says Caraballo, who sees "that these governments are not in line with the challenges that Lanzarote society has for the coming decades, such as adaptation to climate change, the correction of social inequality, mobility, the demographic challenge and/or care policies."

On the other hand, Caraballo has contrasted this "frustration of the right" with the "purposeful and transformative" policies that his organization maintains on the island. "We have had a clear line for four years, proposing to improve the lives of our people with a collective horizon of Island-Home."

Assessment of European results

Yoné Caraballo has also taken stock of the latest European elections in Lanzarote, where he pointed out the increase experienced by NC-bc, going from 1.66% in 2019 to 4.39%. A result, he points out, "that far from conforming us gives us more strength to continue growing on the island."

However, he expressed concern about the advance of the right and far-right bloc in Lanzarote, which obtained 54.22% of the vote cast between PP, CC Vox and the ultra Alvice. An advance that is opposed to the lower performance of the progressive bloc, which concentrates 41.54%.

That is why he is calling on all progressive forces and civil associations in Lanzarote to unite in a common front of hope in favor of welfare and collective policies against the right's every man for himself.

"The way out of frustration and discontent cannot be the loss of freedoms, rights and well-being. The way out cannot be ultraconservative and regressive, but rather common and caring," says Yoné Caraballo.
