NC asks that the works in the Tahíche Clinic also expand the center and improve services

In addition, they propose that the possibility of incorporating a second Health Center into the Basic Health Zone of Teguise be explored in the future.

Fernando Jiménez, councilor of Nueva Canarias - Canarista Block (NC-bc) in the Teguise City Council

The Local Committee of Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-BC) in the municipality of Teguise has publicly demanded that the current improvement works in the Local Clinic of Tahiche "not be limited to a superficial reform, but serve to expand the health infrastructure and lay the foundations for an infrastructure with more and better resources, consultations and specialized services".

According to the Canarian councilor and family doctor in the municipality of Teguise, Fernando Jiménez, “the clinic currently serves more than 4,000 users with only two medical consultations and a treatment room distributed in just over 170 m², which makes it one of the most saturated and uncomfortable centers on the island”.

For Jiménez, “the reform that is currently being carried out is a unique opportunity to resolve a historical deficit. We cannot reform to stay the same and have to reinvest in 5 or 6 years”.

The Government of the Canary Islands has allocated 441,639 euros for the reform of the clinic, with works started in the month of June. However, NC-BC considers it "essential to expand the current project to increase the number of medical and nursing consultations; incorporate new care rooms such as pediatrics, physiotherapy or mental health; improve accessibility and the provision of technological resources and guarantee more agile, close and complete care".

From the Canarian formation they insist that this reform is not a cosmetic improvement. “Expanding the space is essential to incorporate more professionals, offer care in the afternoon, reduce referrals and avoid the collapse of the Costa Teguise Clinic and the Teguise town Health Center”, says Fernando Jiménez.

In addition, Fernando Jiménez proposes to the Government of the Canary Islands and the Lanzarote Health Area the possibility that the Basic Health Zone of Teguise has a second Health Center, which complements the current one in Teguise town. A new Health Center that would also allow "more comprehensive care, with prevention programs, monitoring of chronic diseases, home care or community services, improving the quality of life and health of the entire population".

Consistency with the commitment to public health

This claim is added to the work that Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista has been developing throughout the island in health matters, with claims such as the creation of a psychiatry subunit in the emergency room of the Molina Orosa Hospital; the expansion of the Playa Blanca Health Clinic and construction of the new Health Center; promotion of a third Basic health area in Arrecife that offers broad coverage to the neighborhoods of Argana Alta, Argana Baja and Maneje or the defense of the Insular Hospital and improvement of access to the Dr. Molina Orosa hospital.

Also the implementation of the public Early Care service for children; the need to locate a 24-hour Continuous Care Service in Mala; the medicalized helicopter for Lanzarote, among many others that the deputy Yoné Caraballo has championed.
