More than 8,500 students from Primary, Secondary and Baccalaureate education in Lanzarote, specifically 8,630, participated in the educational visits program of the Department of Education and Cultural Action (DEAC) of the Centers for Art, Culture and Tourism during 2024.

This educational proposal seeks to bring Manrique's artistic work closer to the island's population from an early age through educational visits that allow them to understand the Universe created by the Lanzarote artist, thus aiming to contribute to their cognitive growth, promote their environmental and heritage awareness, and foster their identity and sense of belonging.

“It is a commitment to the educational community of Lanzarote,” said the entity's counselor, Ángel Vázquez. “It is essential that young people know what the CACT are, what it cost to think about them, what it cost to create them, what values they represent and what their objectives are because young people are the owners of the future of this island, who will have to choose the course of Lanzarote,” he reflected.

Some relevant figures

In total, the DEAC team carried out 263 educational visits during 2024.

The most requested center was Montañas del Fuego, with a total of 51, followed by Jameos del Agua.

The month in which the Centers received the highest influx of students was March, with 2,183. The least, obviously August, with 8.

The DEAC has carried out a total of 2,138 visits with a total of 47,195 students since it was launched in 2007.

Visit methodology

Based on an active and participatory methodology, the visits are adapted to the ages of the students. Thus, it is intended to be eminently practical in the case of students of Early Childhood Education and the first Cycle of Primary Education, while with those of the second and third cycle of Primary Education, attention is paid to key concepts such as awareness, knowledge, attitudes, skills, evaluation capacity and participation.

The visits of Secondary and Baccalaureate students are focused on knowing in greater depth the contents explained, using a more specific and technical language.

In addition to the value of the Centers for Art, Culture and Tourism, during the visits other aspects of the island are also valued, such as its membership in the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network or its condition as a Biosphere Reserve. “We try to help them look more than see through the Centers for Art, Culture and Tourism, and to provide them with tools that allow them to acquire the ability to know, explore and understand the world; to influence their environment and to value the local environment and natural heritage as part of the identity of Lanzarote,” they point out from the DEAC.
