More than 50 residents of El Charco del Palo met on Tuesday in a bar in the area to convey to the PSOE candidates for the Mayoralties of Teguise and Haría, Isabel Martín and Hugo Delgado, respectively, their concern for the abandonment of this urbanization, according to one of the neighbors Norbert Overdick. The neighbors demanded that both candidates try to ensure that the developer of the urbanization completes all the necessary infrastructures in this area before June 1, 2011, when El Charco del Palo begins to fill with tourists who spend the summer on the island.
The area, in which residential and tourist uses coexist, does not have household garbage collection services or public lighting in a part of the urbanization, and its streets have been unpaved until very recently.
According to Overdick, the part of Charco del Palo that belongs to the municipality of Haría has "a minimum of services", while the one that corresponds to Teguise "is totally forgotten by public managers". "The problem is aggravated when we know that the urbanization is private and has not yet been handed over to the town halls", he states.
To talk about all these problems with the residents of El Charco del Palo, the PSOE candidate for the Teguise City Council, Isabel Martín, as well as Hugo Delgado, socialist candidate for the Mayoralty of Haría, moved to this place. Both were in favor of trying to improve the area, where mainly Germans and British live.
