A total of 132 students from the CEIP Benito Méndez Tarajano have premiered different educational workshops this Tuesday in the Parque de Los Leones de Titerroy. This initiative is carried out on the occasion of the municipal Animal Welfare Days, which have been organized by the Arrecife City Council.
This initiative, organized on the occasion of World Animal Day, which is celebrated this Wednesday, October 4, also has the participation of the Department of Education, coordinated by Abigail González, and the collaboration of the Animal Welfare Area of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, the responsibility of Aroa Revelo.
The schoolchildren of Benito Méndez have been able to enjoy different awareness activities aimed at an optimal reinsertion and coexistence of animals in society, and tomorrow another 119 Primary students from CEIP Titerroy will do so.
The authorities did not want to miss the beginning of the conference and both the mayor and the councilor of Animal Welfare, accompanied by other public officials, have visited each of the 15 stands that make up the event, taking an interest in the awareness work carried out by each and every one of the participating NGOs.
The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, has highlighted that after the recent entry into force of the Law on the Protection of the Rights and Welfare of Animals, "we will advance in animal welfare. We will see in this new mandate measures to become an animal-friendly city. These conferences are part of this new line that we have drawn to which will be added the creation and adaptation of dog parks in our municipality."
For the first mayor, progress will be made "in improving the conditions of coexistence with animals, responsible ownership, the care of urban animals and the fight against mistreatment and abandonment, since with responsibility real protection and rights of animals will be achieved."
For his part, the Councilor for Animal Welfare, Jacobo Lemes, recalled that the best way to celebrate World Animal Day is "respecting all living beings and, as an institution, we must organize activities that promote a healthy interest in animals, especially among the younger generations."
In the same line as the mayor, Lemes has emphasized the work that is being carried out in the Area he coordinates "to protect companion animals and promote their well-being, promoting adequate nutrition and health control and, above all, avoiding cruelty and mistreatment."
Topics such as adoption, main care, feeding and education of pets, as well as the new Animal Welfare Law, will be very present these days in the different talks, demonstrations and workshops that have already begun to take place this morning and will continue this afternoon from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and tomorrow Wednesday at the same time (from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.).
