Voter during elections in Lanzarote

A total of 104,016 people will be able to vote in all constituencies for the elections on May 28 in Lanzarote. This data is the result of the sum of all people with the right to vote collected in the censuses of Spaniards residing in the municipalities of the island and the islanders residing abroad.

For the first time in the history of the island, more than 100,000 voters are registered who will have the option of deciding who their representatives will be after the next elections. According to the Electoral Law, the electoral roll includes the registration of all those people who meet the requirements to be voters and who are not deprived, definitively or temporarily, of the right to vote.

In total, the representatives of the seven municipalities of the island, the Cabildo and the Parliament of the Canary Islands will be decided. The electoral roll that will be used for the elections closed on February 1. However, between April 10 and 17, changes, additions and deletions can be made.

As of February 1, there were 100,217 people of Spanish nationality and residents on the island, according to the Electoral Census of Spaniards Resident in Spain (CER), published by the National Institute of Statistics (INE). The municipality with the most registered Spanish residents was Arrecife, with 42,655 citizens, followed by Teguise (15,508), San Bartolomé (13,729), Tías (10,791), Yaiza (8,696), Tinajo (4,753) and Haría (4,085). To this, we must add the Electoral Census of Spaniards Resident Abroad (CERA), which adds 3,622 more citizens.

Municipal elections

To the 104,016 people who will be able to vote in the next elections, we must include resident foreigners who, although they cannot participate in the island and regional elections, can participate in the municipal elections.

In this sense, the census of foreign voters residing in Spain (CERE) includes 2,562 people distributed among the seven municipalities of the island. In this way, 106,578 people will be able to elect their local representatives next Sunday, May 28. This point includes citizens of the European Union, as well as citizens of Bolivia, Cape Verde, Chile, Colombia, Korea, Ecuador, Iceland, Norway, New Zealand, Paraguay, Peru, United Kingdom and Trinidad and Tobago.
