Mararía works with the women of San Bartolomé on equality and the prevention of gender violence

They have already visited the municipalities of Haría, Tinajo, Yaiza and since September 3, Mararía is in San Bartolomé to develop the Project of Integral Services and Counseling for Women and Rural Society with the aim of giving place "to prevention and education in values". A project focused on giving "individualized, psychological and social attention, defending the policies of equality and prevention of gender violence".

In the words of the program's technician, Alicia Holgado, the intention is "to get information, education and dynamization through social agents to develop specific objectives such as working with social agents through workshops and offering advice." Social skills, relaxation techniques or one dedicated to the protocols of action of the Civil Guard and Local Police are some of the workshops that are taught from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the women's area.

This Tuesday, they presented the project in the municipality, with the assistance of its mayor Marcial Martín who thanked Mararía for 14 years of work in the prevention and eradication of this social problem. "Aggressors should feel rejected by society," said the mayor, while Nieves Rosa Hernández, as coordinator and president of the Association emphasized the objectives of the group to "try to change the mentality", because, "only the change of mental and social schemes", she stressed, "will achieve social changes."

Last year 480 people participated in the project in the municipality of San Bartolomé. The Councilor for Social Services Concepción Álvarez has highlighted Mararía's willingness to make this initiative, the result of an agreement between the Cabildo, the Social Work of La Caja de Canarias, the City Council of San Bartolomé and the Mararía Association, a common objective extensive to the maximum number of residents and adapted to the needs of the groups.
