An unpleasant event clouded the festive mood of some of the participants in the Puerto del Carmen float parade. This was the case of the children's murga of "Los Guacimetitos" and the "Batucada Son de Ajei", who were expelled from the parade at La Peñita, for being considered "too slow" and "for hindering the arena", commented Conchi, the president of the murga.
After parading in the four street parades held so far in Lanzarote (Arrecife, Playa Honda, San Bartolomé and Puerto del Carmen) the Association of "Los Guacimetitos" cannot explain why they were expelled, "we don't understand why we were expelled from the arena, we have the same right as anyone to parade in a carnival that belongs to the people."
Murga members from three years old and up received with tears the decision of the organization to leave the float parade. The murga regrets such a "thoughtless" decision. "After the hard work of putting makeup on and dressing all the children, being expelled has caused great sadness and disappointment."
For his part, Rafael González, Councilor for Festivities of Tías, has stated that "it is always recommended that children's murgas do not participate in the Puerto del Carmen arena as it is a longer parade" and "because they consider that children are not able to keep up with the pace of the adults." Likewise, González clarifies that "the murga was recommended at the time to move forward to the position behind the Parranda Marinera de "Los Buches", but he does not know why they did not place themselves there.
