The Local Police of Arrecife is intensifying its presence in sensitive areas of the city with the aim of preventing the sale and consumption of drugs, especially in spaces frequented by adolescents.

The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, directly responsible for the Local Police, has reiterated that one of his main priorities in terms of security is to ensure that parks and public spaces are not used by drug traffickers or become youth consumption points.

During this week, coinciding with the start of the new school year, several patrols have deployed preventive controls in different areas of the city, including Los Pinos Park, in the Titerroy neighborhood. These operations are supported by both the surveillance of uniformed officers and investigation work with vehicles and plainclothes police.

The mayor confirmed that these deployments will be maintained constantly, complemented by direct actions in response to residents' notices. In addition, he recalled that the collaboration between the Local Police and the National Police has significantly reduced crimes related to drug trafficking during the first quarter of 2025 in Arrecife, a positive contrast to the increase recorded in other municipalities of Lanzarote, according to official data from the Ministry of the Interior.

In recent months, the Local Police has incorporated new technologies, such as drones, which have already allowed the identification of traffickers in the city. With these tools, together with the recent material and logistical reinforcements, the Arrecife police force is positioned among the most advanced in the Canary Islands.
