Lanzarote En Pie will request the Arrecife City Council to approve the adaptation of the reserved parking spaces for people with reduced mobility that give access to the two preferred motor centers: IES César Manrique and CEIP Capellanía del Yágabo.

The formation claims that, in this way, "they comply with the measures and distances contemplated by law". In addition, they will also request "the elaboration of a comprehensive technical plan for the adaptation to current regulations of the public PMR places in the rest of the city".

The coordinator of the LEP working team on dependency and disability, Lucía Ballesteros, explained that this motion is due to "the need for the City Council to comply with the legal conditions of urban accessibility, in accordance with the Technical Building Code 173/2010 and the Law on Accessibility and Suspension of Physical and Communication Barriers".

"In these years, few adjustments have been made to adapt the municipality's fords with these characteristics to current regulations, so the measures required for these places to effectively fulfill the purpose for which they were conceived are not being respected," says Ballesteros.

From LEP they point out that this breach of the regulations by the City Council presided over by Astrid Pérez, has meant that people with reduced mobility "often encounter numerous problems". They detail that one of these problems may be "the existence of places that do not have a size suitable for all adapted vehicles, taking into account that many of these are equipped with an access door in the rear and side".

In other cases, they detail from LEP, when there is not enough space, "there is a lack of security to access the vehicles by the users who", and they assure that "they are forced to occupy part of the road with the consequent risk that it implies for physical integrity".

Lanzarote en Pie points out that other frequent complaints from users have been that, despite the existence of reserved places for adapted vehicles, "access to the sidewalks is not conditioned, so that the affected people have to move along the road, avoiding both the cars that circulate and those that are parked".

"Many users have contacted our organization to denounce that the places that are destined for people with disabilities are in areas where there are garbage collectors, bollards, bins and other urban obstacles, which makes it difficult for people who precisely because of their characteristics have more problems with this type of impediments," Ballesteros concludes.
