Learn about traffic detours in Playa Honda due to the underpass construction

The works will be carried out during the night of January 23, between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. the following day

Traffic Diversion Plan This Thursday

The Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Mobility of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the General Directorate of Road Infrastructure, directed by Rosana Melián, reports that this Thursday, January 23, at night, several traffic cuts will be made on the branches of the LZ-2 link, at the height of Playa Honda, to continue with the execution works of the new underpass, in the area of the LZ-2, P.K. 2+500.

During the hours between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., the north-bound lane of the existing underpass on the Playa Honda link, which connects Playa Honda with the industrial-commercial area, will be closed to traffic. Vehicles intending to access the industrial-commercial area from the LZ-2 (Arrecife direction) must make a U-turn in the El Cable urbanization and access the area from the north carriageway of the LZ-2.

Also, between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. that same night, access from the Playa Honda roundabout to the branch that connects to the Deiland Shopping Center will be closed to traffic. In this case, vehicles intending to access the shopping center from the LZ-2 (Arrecife direction) will have to go to the Calle Mayor roundabout and take the direct turn lane of the Playa Honda link, whose access is currently limited only to residents.

About the project

The new underpass has been awarded to the company Señalizaciones Villar S.A. for a value of 3,813,768.38 euros.

This project includes the creation of an underground passage parallel to the current one, designed to facilitate both road and pedestrian and cyclist traffic. Once completed, it is estimated that it will free the roundabouts accessing Playa Honda from approximately 9,000 vehicles per day, reducing the retentions that also affect the LZ-2.

The underpass will have natural lighting provided by six skylights on the roof, improving it in the interior space. In addition, sufficient space has been planned for the coexistence between pedestrians, cyclists and drivers, including a pedestrian sidewalk of 5.50 meters, a segregated bike lane of 3.50 meters, a green strip of 1.90 meters and a traffic lane of 5.50 meters.

This project will not only improve mobility and road safety in the area, but will also contribute to the reduction of pollution, aligning with the sustainable development objectives of the Government of the Canary Islands.
