The Irish are delighted with Lanzarote, or at least the jury of the Irish Travel Trade awards, which has decided to award the island as the best sun and beach destination. The awards were decided this Wednesday night on the occasion of the "Holiday World" fair that from this Thursday and until Sunday, January 27, is celebrated in Dublin.
Lanzarote competed with three other heavyweights: Portugal, Turkey and Spain, aspirants who were competing as countries and to whom, as pointed out by the CEO of the Lanzarote Tourist Board, María José Docal, Lanzarote has prevailed as the first destination for the Irish. "It is a very important market for us and we are very happy", commented this Thursday from Dublin María José Docal.
It is the sixth time that Lanzarote has obtained this recognition in the Irish Travel Trade awards, which in turn represent an important promotion within the Irish market, in which the island has been present as a holiday destination for almost two decades, as recalled by the Councilor of the Tourist Board. "We started with little presence in Ireland and now we are the first destination," she said.
The award was collected by the Lanzarote delegation in Dublin in a ceremony that took place this Wednesday night. The recognition for the island is symbolized with a Bohemian crystal sculpture that María José Docal will bring back.
The Lanzarote delegation is at the Holiday World fair in meetings with agents and tour operators to continue promoting the island as a tourist destination in Ireland.
