The counselor of the Mixed Group in the Insular Council of Lanzarote, Óscar Noda, has requested the urgent appearance of the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, to provide the necessary explanations to the citizens of Lanzarote about the exceeded levels of the bacterium Escherichia coli, commonly known as E. coli, and the sanction of the Insular Water Council to the service of the Insular Slaughterhouse.

“It is not the first time,” explains Óscar Noda, “that Lanzarote experiences a complicated situation that, to some extent, alarms the island's population, and the highest insular representative, far from shedding light on the issues, hides behind bombastic press releases and Hollywood-style TikTok videos. The citizens of Lanzarote need answers and not a president of the Cabildo in the purest Houdini-like evasive style.”

“We are facing a new example of neglect and apathy with direct responsibility of the President and the Counselor of the area, and furthermore, this comes in addition to the issue of the castor seeds that were mistakenly distributed just a few months ago. Oswaldo Betancort once again puts the health of the 'conejeros' at risk for the second time in a short period, and the only response is to look the other way, especially when the Insular Water Council of Lanzarote itself sanctions the Cabildo of Lanzarote, as the owner of the Insular Slaughterhouse, for non-compliance with the quality parameters of the discharges from the wastewater treatment plant (EDAR) of the facility. The excuse that has come to light has been a technical report from Canaragua attributing the detected non-compliance to a breakdown in the chlorination system used for the disinfection of the treated water.”

“The increase in bacterial load requires explanations from Oswaldo Betancort who, as with other important issues, prefers silence as a response and to let time pass to see if the storm blows over. It is for all these reasons that we request the appearance of Oswaldo Betancort, regretting that he himself does not voluntarily provide the answers to the inhabitants of Lanzarote,” concludes Óscar Noda.

"That is to say, Oswaldo Betancort himself, as president of the Insular Water Consortium, imposes a sanction on Oswaldo Betancort himself, as the councilor responsible for the Insular Slaughterhouse, for the disaster in the facility's discharges that he supposedly directs, it would be funny if it weren't because it costs us Lanzaroteans money and, even more serious, because people's health has been gambled with again," Noda sentences.
