The Cabildo of Lanzarote hosted this Friday the presentation of the new attire of the Diablos de Haría, a renovation that maintains the essence of one of the most recognizable cultural symbols of the Island and which has been possible thanks to the collaboration between the Diablos de Haría Association, the Cabildo of Lanzarote, and the Lanzarote designer Oswaldo Machín.

The event was attended by the Minister of Handicrafts, Aroa Revelo; the Minister of Culture, Jesús Machín; the Councilor for Culture of the Haría City Council, Evelia García; the president of the Diablos de Haría Association, Carlos Betancort; the designer Oswaldo Machín, and Paula Montero, a member of the association.

During the presentation, Aroa Revelo highlighted the importance of preserving popular traditions that are part of Lanzarote's identity. “The Diablos de Haría are living heritage of Lanzarote. This new attire reflects respect for a tradition that has managed to stay alive generation after generation and is part of the cultural history of our island,” she stated.

For his part, the Minister of Culture, Jesús Machín, insisted on the Cabildo's involvement in this initiative. “It is the first time that the Cabildo of Lanzarote collaborates on a project of these characteristics with the Diablos de Haría, and we believe it should be the first of many. We are talking about an association deeply rooted in the culture and traditions of Haría and Lanzarote, so from the Institution, we extend our hand to continue collaborating in the future,” he affirmed.

The Councilor for Culture of Haría, Evelia García, thanked the involvement of all the people who have participated in the project and underlined that “the Diablos are part of the identity of our municipality and are one of the most beloved traditions by the residents of Haría”.

Similarly, the designer Oswaldo Machín explained that the work has been developed respecting the historical image of the group. “Our goal has been to update the attire without losing its essence. To do this, we have had the collaboration of the Artesanía Lanzarote team, carrying out joint work that combines tradition, craft, and design,” he indicated.

For his part, Carlos Betancort emphasized the importance of this renewal for the association. “It is a very special day for the Diablos de Haría. This new attire is the result of a lot of work and will allow us to continue proudly carrying a tradition that has been part of our history for more than thirty years,” he stated.

The new attire will be premiered on June 23, at 11:00 PM, during the traditional Haría Night of Fire, one of the most emblematic events of the San Juan festivities and in which the Diablos will once again star in the Dance of Fire alongside the Burning of Facundo.
