The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Waste Area directed by councilor Domingo Cejas, has awarded this Monday the **prizes corresponding to the Recycled Christmas Campaign 2025**, an educational initiative promoted through Lanzarote Recicla and developed in collaboration with the company holding the service concession, Urbaser.
The handover ceremony took place in the Plenary Hall of the island institution, and was attended by Domingo Cejas, the delegate of Urbaser, Paula Álvarez; as well as representatives of the three educational centers awarded in each of the categories in contention. In this edition of the campaign, resumed by Residuos during the current term, a total of twelve centers have participated. Each winning group has received a symbolic check for 1,000 euros, an amount that the centers will now allocate to the acquisition of material
The counselor Domingo Cejas has stated that he was especially satisfied to have recovered this initiative, thanking the Lanzarote Recicla team and Urbaser for the work carried out in the call and development of the campaign. "Environmental education is key to moving towards a more sustainable Lanzarote, enabling our waste to have a second life." Initiatives like this not only raise awareness among students, but also have a multiplier effect on families and society as a whole, reinforcing the circular economy, the counselor indicatedFor her part, the Urbaser delegate, Paula Álvarez, highlighted the high level of "imagination" shown by the participating students, and emphasized how measures of this type "reinforce the awareness of reusing Christmas decorations and prevent everything from ending up in the trash without being reused".
Much more than decorating
Under the title Recycled Christmas: ornaments with a second life, the campaign has aimed to **foster creativity, environmental awareness, and the values of the circular economy among schoolchildren**, inviting them to create Christmas ornaments from waste and reused materials. The creations have been made during the first part of the school year and evaluated by a jury that has assessed criteria such as originality, the use of recycled materials, the environmental message, and the artistic quality of the worksThe participating centers competed in three differentiated categories by educational levels, which allowed for the recognition of the effort and involvement of students of different ages and training stagesIn the category of Early Childhood and Primary Education, the first prize went to CEE Ntra. Sra. de los Volcanes, whose works stood out for the imaginative use of recycled materials and the involvement of the youngest students in the creation of the decorationsIn the category of Rural Schools, CEIP Muñique was awarded, with special recognition for the creativity, teamwork, and environmental message conveyed in their creations.
Lastly, in the Secondary Education category, the award went to IES Tinajo, whose projects reflected greater technical complexity and a deeper reflection on waste reuse and the circular economy.
