The Governing Council of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has approved the signing of a framework cooperation agreement between the Department of Social Welfare and Inclusion and the Cibervoluntarios Foundation for the development of programs, projects, and activities linked to digital skills, social inclusion, and the reduction of the digital divide in Lanzarote and La Graciosa.

The agreement contemplates the implementation of studies, workshops, talks, courses, and training actions, both in-person and online, especially aimed at people and groups in situations of digital vulnerability.

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, highlighted that "digital transformation must also reach those who have the most difficulty accessing technology or navigating the digital environment."

In this regard, he pointed out that "this agreement allows us to advance in equal opportunities, bringing tools and training closer to groups that are often left out of these processes."

For his part, the Minister of Social Welfare and Inclusion, Marci Acuña, explained that "the digital divide is also a form of social exclusion today, especially among the elderly, the unemployed, or families with fewer resources." He also stressed that "this agreement will allow for the development of practical digital training and support actions in different parts of the island, prioritizing those areas where a greater need has been detected."

The Cibervoluntarios Foundation is a non-profit organization specializing in the social use of technology and the development of digital skills for vulnerable groups. The approved agreement establishes a framework for collaboration between both entities to promote initiatives related to digital inclusion, employability, citizen participation, and technological volunteering.

Among the commitments included in the agreement, the Cabildo will provide spaces for workshops and promote activities among social entities and vulnerable groups, while the Foundation will carry out the training actions at no cost to the corporation or the users.
