Lanzarote and Arrecife urge the State to establish the route with Madrid as a public service

This has been done in separate plenary meetings of the corporations held this Friday

Ordinary Plenary Session of the Cabildo of Lanzarote this Friday

The plenary sessions of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the City Council of Arrecife have urged this Friday, in separate plenary meetings of the corporations, that the Government of Spain establish the air connection between the island and Madrid as a Public Service Obligation (PSO).

The motions, presented in both corporations by the PP, have obtained the support of the majority of the plenary sessions to demand that the State comply with "the commitment acquired" to initiate, "as quickly as possible", this designation as PSO, with the objective of setting a maximum price for flights with Madrid, the formation stated in a statement.

The PP has lamented "the little value that the word of the president (Pedro) Sánchez has today", in that he has not included the establishment of the Lanzarote-Madrid route as PSO in his government pact with Sumar.

They have recalled from the formation that in March the Government committed to execute an experimental test in this sense between Lanzarote and Madrid that should have started in June, although to date the measure has not been effective.

The populars have reiterated "the need to put a maximum on the prices of air tickets", especially in view of the upcoming Christmas, as well as in other festive and holiday periods, while insisting that "there is no need to wait any longer for something that the law already includes".

This decision, they added, "cannot be left to the voluntariness of Mr. Sánchez".
