Lanzarote now has 2,146 titles that accredit the status of large family

Lanzarote already has 2,146 titles that accredit the status of a large family. This was stated by the general director of Protection for Children in the Family of the Government of the Canary Islands, who assured that "the processing has been greatly improved" and that "at this time there is no longer a waiting list."

The General Directorate of Protection for Children and Families has organized some technical conferences in the island module belonging to the Government of the Canary Islands to train municipal technicians from the seven town halls of the Island in the processing of the title that accredits the status of a large family and thus "decentralize and further streamline its processing", according to Morales.

Through this management assignment, the town halls will be able to report on the requirements for the recognition of the right to obtain the large family card; facilitate, process and register the application, its renewal, modification or issuance due to loss; and also facilitate the physical copy in paper form of the card, both for the family unit and individually when the procedure is resolved favorably by the General Directorate of Protection for Children and Families.

Advantages, discounts and tax exemptions

Lanzarote was the first island in which all its town halls joined the management assignment protocol so that the municipal social services of Primary Care could collect applications from residents of their respective municipalities.

"The card allows access to advantages, discounts and tax exemptions that are detailed on the website that we have created so that families are better informed. The advantages range from obtaining the social electricity bonus, the right to scholarships to discounts on transport - both maritime, air and land - or in the field of culture", explained the general director of Protection for Children in the Family of the Government of the Canary Islands

"The deadlines stipulated by law are being met"

Carmen Morales has made "a special mention to the effort of the staff of the General Directorate of Protection for Children and Families, since the entry into force of the Law modifying the child and adolescent protection system meant a substantial change in the concept of a large family, in addition to incorporating greater benefits and tax exemptions".

For that reason, at the beginning of her responsibility as director, in January 2017, "there was a large waiting list that now, thanks to a series of measures such as shock plans, the improvement of the computer application, the electronic headquarters or the decentralization of some procedures through management assignment to the town halls, began to be reduced and today the deadlines stipulated by law to resolve the files are being met", she pointed out.
