The mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, inaugurated the recently renovated cultural center of Caleta de Sebo, which since this Monday is "available to the residents of La Graciosa and the associations that request the use of its facilities, which have a multipurpose room, a computer room, a library and a children's playroom."
"It is a great pride to unveil this plaque that bears the name of a woman from Graciosa who made history defending her people through words and poetry, Inocencia Páez Betancort, to whom we pay tribute with this new meeting point that opens its doors attending to the idiosyncrasy of the island of La Graciosa, so that it is the main meeting point for all the residents," said the mayor during the opening ceremony, accompanied by the delegate councilor in the eighth island, Alicia Páez, and by the councilors Olivia Duque and Eugenio Robayna.
The Inocencia Páez cultural center is a "diaphanous and functional space of 1400 square meters" that is already at the service of the residents of La Graciosa. "A modern and comfortable space equipped with Wi-Fi, LED lighting and motion sensors that allow energy saving and that has, among the new services and furniture available to residents, a library, a children's playroom, a computer room, a space for board games, a meeting room, a warehouse, adapted bathrooms and a multipurpose room. In addition, the reopening of this social facility entails the generation of a job with the hiring of a concierge," they point out from the Teguise City Council.
As Councilor for Urban Planning and Contracting, among other areas, Olivia Duque, announced during her visit that "the Government team is already working on the launch of a second phase of these facilities with which to add a ball court and new areas of recreation and meeting for the residents of Graciosa."
For her part, the councilor of La Graciosa, Alicia Páez, promised to "carry out a program of activities with which to revitalize this space that houses an exhibition of images taken by Javier Reyes Acuña and that decorate the walls of the center reflecting the history of La Graciosa and its customs, immortalized through the lens of the photographer from Haría."
In addition, she noted that "in line with continuing to improve public facilities, the Teguise City Council has already sent to the Cabildo of Lanzarote the project for energy efficiency, conditioning of electrical installations and renovation of lighting of the Caleta de Sebo sports center."
In this sense, the Councilor for Roads and Works, Eugenio Robayna, assured that Teguise is "awaiting a document from the Department of the Environment of the Cabildo to start an investment of 80,000 euros, from FEDER funds, in this sports area, for which we maintain direct contact with the technicians so that we can start the works soon."
