The mayors of the Canary Islands are going to submit to the next executive committee of the Canary Islands Federation of Municipalities (Fecam) a proposal for a motion to be presented in all the municipalities of the archipelago rejecting the broadcast of the miniseries "Vuelo IL871" planned by Telecinco, and which is based on the accident of flight JK5022, in which 154 people died, most of them from the Canary Islands.
The president of Fecam, Lázaro Brito, has pointed out that this miniseries represents an "attack" on the memory of the victims and their families, for which he demanded that the television network "reconsider" its broadcast and "withdraw" it from its programming.
Brito regrets the "lack of sensitivity" towards the victims, their families and the Canarian society as a whole, which involves the programming of this miniseries, "just two years after this terrible accident that shocked Spain", according to a statement from Fecam.
In this sense, he pointed out that the town councils, as the institutions "closest" to the citizens, cannot remain "indifferent" to the "pain and suffering" that so many Canarian families who have been victims of this tragic accident have gone through and "continue to suffer".
This Friday, August 20, at 12:00 hours, a minute of silence has been scheduled in all local corporations in the Canary Islands in memory of the victims and their families.
