The Local Committee of Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-BC) in Tías has agreed to restructure its local executive, where Juan de León will be the new spokesperson, Arminda Barreto will assume the presidency and Christian Hellquis the secretary of organization.

This was decided on Monday afternoon together with the rest of the colleagues of the Insular Executive of NC-BC, who congratulated the new spokesperson for this step into active politics in a municipality that they consider "fundamental" for the consolidation of the Canarian and progressive project that they represent in Lanzarote and La Graciosa.

For Juan de León "this responsibility is born with enthusiasm and commitment towards the ideas that NC-BC defends for the society of Lanzarote as a whole, and that should permeate in the municipality of Tías as an alternative to the parties and dynamics that have been in the majority until now".

"Our objective in Tías will be to reinforce the presence of the NC-BC project, incorporate more people into political and militant participation and focus on finding alternatives to solve the main problems of the residents, always from a constructive opposition. You will not see us criticize without having an alternative", says de León, who expresses that he "assumes this spokesperson role convinced that the municipality needs fresh air, renewal of ideas, faces and ways of exercising politics from the local, Canarian and progressive perspective".

For her part, the president of the Local Committee and former NC-BC candidate for mayor of Tías in 2023, Arminda Barreto, thanked Juan de León for taking this step in a task that she describes as a "challenge" in the face of a political panorama of certain citizen "apathy" with the current rulers. The Canarian nationalist recalled that they are not starting from scratch and "although in 2023 we were late in forming the Local Committee, we demonstrated that in the municipality there are many people with a desire for change and with the desire to do things differently, more focused on the care of people, their territory, their well-being and their culture".

"I trust that Juan de León, and the entire team that accompanies him, will offer a boost to the NC-BC project and will attract residents of Tías who want to participate in the public affairs that affect us all", says Barreto, who is sure that "the municipality needs a political formation that looks after the future of all generations, young and old".

Similarly, the new local secretary of organization, Christian Hellquis, stressed that "this restructuring of the Local Committee is not only a change of names, but the confirmation of a renewed commitment to our municipality, with our people and with this Canarian, progressive and transformative project that unites us. Having an organized and operational executive structure is not a formality: it is a political necessity. It is what guarantees that ideas do not remain in words, that proposals reach the streets and that militancy has real spaces to participate".

Finally, the island president of NC-BC and deputy in the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Yoné Caraballo, highlighted the commitment of those NC-BC militants in Tías who have remained in the project despite not having obtained representation in 2023. "This shows", said Caraballo, "that being a militant in NC-BC is not looking for a position or a job, but goes much further. It is committing to principles, values and an idea of Island-Home with more well-being and social justice".

"This restructuring of the Local Committee of Tías shows that NC-BC is not waiting to see what happens. We are working in all the municipalities of the island silently but productively. We want the best, men and women who have their lives resolved outside of politics. That they give security that this activity will not be for life, since they have a professional place to return to. That is what generates confidence and freedom to exercise politics; and Juan de León, Arminda Barreto and Christian Hellquis fully comply with these requirements".

"Now we are going for Yaiza and Tinajo. And this is the level we set for ourselves", said Yoné Caraballo.
