José Montelongo faces a "normal working day" before resigning as mayor

From his press office they affirm that the mayor is "resolving municipal matters that he had pending" and that his resignation has not yet occurred...

José Montelongo has not yet submitted his resignation as mayor of Arrecife and during the morning of this Monday he continues to perform his duties in the City Council. This has been indicated by the press office of the City Council. According to what they have assured, Montelongo is having this Monday "a normal working day" before handing over his act.

The general secretary of the Lanzarote socialists, María Dolores Corujo, announced on Saturday that Montelongo would resign this Monday from his position and his position as councilor in the Consistory. In this regard, from the press office they affirm that "there have been no changes" and that this resignation will occur, although they have not confirmed at what time and have indicated that "the secretary" will find out directly, when the resignation is registered. In addition, according to reports, Montelongo has no intention of appearing before the media or making statements.

While that resignation arrives, Montelongo faces "a normal working day", they say. Thus, he has received "people in his office" and "is resolving municipal matters that he had pending", although they have not specified which ones. Among those meetings in his office, from the office they only indicate that there has been "no meeting with the Government group or with anyone from the PSOE".

Corujo announced Montelongo's decision at a press conference in which the mayor was not present. In it, she explained that the Mayor's Office will fall accidentally to her colleague Eva de Anta. Subsequently, a Plenary must be convened so that the councilor is invested as mayor. Regarding the possibility that Montelongo's departure will cause changes in the distribution of areas, from the office they indicate that, if they occur, it will be the party's bodies that deal with them and that these will not be "distributed" until the resignation becomes effective.
