Izquierda Unida Canaria has responded to the controversial statements made this Thursday by the PP deputy Manuel Fernández in the Parliament of the Canary Islands, and has done so by calling him "brainless and hypocritical for calling those who oppose oil exploration 'assholes'". In a statement, IUC adds that the deputy is "brainless for being in favor of surveys that will stain the waters and beaches of the Canary Islands black, and hypocritical because his own party opposes these surveys in Valencia and the Balearic Islands."
In addition, the party "suspects that there is a relationship between the surveys and the Bárcenas case." In the press release, IUC recalls that "the government of Mariano Rajoy responded to a parliamentary question from Izquierda Unida saying that hardly any jobs would be created in the Canary Islands and that the autonomous community would not receive any income in this regard either." In the same vein, IU reiterates that "a small hotel in Lanzarote would employ more people than on the oil platforms, and if there were an oil spill, the tourism sector would collapse, taking tens of thousands of Canarian families with it to unemployment and poverty."
The formation concludes by stating that the company Sacyr Vallerhermoso "is one of the PP's donors in the Bárcenas case, this company being one of the majority shareholders of Repsol." Therefore, Izquierda Unida understands that "these donations or alleged bribes were made in exchange for something, for contracts and authorizations, so there is a cloud of doubt."
